T+1 settlement, and when you actually get paid
T+1 settlement means money from a sale reaches your bank account on the next working day. Indian payment gateways settle on roughly that cycle by default. Where creators wait longer, the delay is usually the platform's payout schedule rather than anything in the banking system.

T+1 means the working day after the transaction. A sale on Tuesday reaches the bank on Wednesday. It is a banking term, it is unremarkable, and it is worth knowing because it is the benchmark every payout promise should be measured against.
Why do platform payouts take longer?
Because they are a separate thing from settlement. The gateway settles to whoever the merchant is on roughly a T+1 cycle. If that merchant is the platform, then what you receive is not a settlement at all — it is a payout, on a schedule the platform published, and it can be weekly or fortnightly without anything in the payments system requiring it.
That is not a scandal. It is cash-flow management, and most platforms are open about the schedule. It is simply a different question from "when does the money leave the buyer's bank", and the two get conflated constantly.
What a settlement report should tell you
- The gross amount the buyer actually paid.
- The gateway's charge, itemised, with the tax on it shown separately.
- The platform's commission, if there is one, as its own line rather than folded into the gateway charge.
- The net amount and the UTR of the bank transfer, so you can find it on your statement.
- The settlement date, which should be a date rather than a range.
If a report gives you a net figure and nothing else, you cannot tell a fee rise from a refund, and you will not notice either for months.
What genuinely delays money
- Weekends and bank holidays. T+1 counts working days, and India has a lot of regional holidays.
- Your first settlement, which many gateways hold slightly longer while an account is new.
- Reserves, where a gateway holds a percentage against chargebacks — normal in high-refund categories and disclosed in your agreement.
- Refund and dispute adjustments, which net against the next settlement rather than arriving as separate debits.
- A KYC detail that does not match. A bank account name that differs from your PAN will stop a payout dead, and it is the most common cause of a first-payout problem.
What to actually do
Reconcile once a month, against your bank statement rather than against the platform's dashboard. Match the UTR, check the fee line against what you believe you agreed, and file the report. It takes twenty minutes and it is the only way anyone ever notices a pricing change they were emailed about and ignored.
Worth asking before you move 🤔
What does T+1 settlement mean?
Money from a transaction reaches the merchant's bank account on the next working day. Indian payment gateways settle on roughly this cycle by default, excluding weekends and bank holidays.
Why does my platform pay me weekly?
Because it is the merchant and you are receiving a payout rather than a settlement. The gateway paid the platform on its own cycle; the weekly schedule is the platform's choice, not a banking constraint.
Can a payout be delayed legitimately?
Yes — bank holidays, a first settlement on a new account, a chargeback reserve disclosed in your agreement, or a mismatch between your bank account name and your PAN. The last one causes most first-payout failures.
